Third Annual Ervin Outlaw Plum Bowl A Success
For the third year in a row, parents, fans and coaches all filed into Jaycee Park in Northern Greensboro to cheer on their favorite area recreation football teams, cheerleaders and marching band.
On Saturday, Nov. 12, more than 400 youths participated in the third annual Ervin Outlaw Plum Bowl benefitting the Ervin Outlaw Scholarship given annually by the Walter Latham Foundation. The inital date for the bowl was Nov. 5 but heavy rains flooded the playing fields.
Pee wee and junior mite football teams from Lewis, Warnersville, Northeast, Peeler, Windsor, Glenwood and Trotter recreation centers in Greensboro were all represented putting a cap on their 2011 season.
All participating teams earned a trophy for their team while the Northeast junior mite team has the distinction of having its team name placed on the trophy for this year’s title.
Between games, event goers enjoyed fellowship, music provided by a DJ and a marching band performance. During games, players learned more about teamwork and sportsmanship while family and fans provided the motivation and inspiration. Bowl participants received swag bags complete with event t-shirts and other prizes.
Scholarships will be awarded to college-bound Guilford County high school seniors who exemplify excellence in and out of the classroom. Applications for the 2012 Ervin Outlaw Scholarship will be available January 9, 2012 on www.walterlathamfoundation.com.
